Welcome to the Diagnostic Imaging Portal of Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals!
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) offers unique advantages as an imaging modality to help diagnosis and to guide and monitor treatment. MRI scans provide several benefits, including the absence of ionizing radiation, excellent soft-tissue contrast and multiplanar capabilities. Moreover, volumetric (3D) data sets can be directly acquired. Contrast media are powerful tools for improving medical diagnosis with MRI. Today, MRI contrast is used in approximately 30% of all magnetic resonance imaging procedures.
MRI scans useful in a variety of diseases
The high sensitivity that can be achieved with magnetic resonance imaging enables an earlier diagnosis of a range of disorders including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurological disorders, allowing treatment to be initiated at a time when it may be most effective. Contrast-enhanced breast MRI for example, is particularly useful for women with a high risk of breast cancer and as a problem-solving tool in patients with dense breasts and inconclusive X-ray mammograms. Brain MRI helps to reveal brain lesions typical for multiple sclerosis.
MRI safety
While MRI scans are considered to be relatively safe and painless, some safety precautions still need to be observed. MRI safety updates help doctors to keep up with safety topics, such as nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF), that may directly impact patient management.
